Meet the Interns!
Anna Clark
Hi everyone, I’m Anna! I’m an incoming senior at American University in Washington DC studying biology. I’m originally from MA and this is my first time out west! At the OIMB, I’m in the South Slough lab working with Shon Schooler on the invasive green crab. After undergrad, I want to get my PhD and go into disease ecology. For now at the OIMB, I’m excited to really get my hands dirty! |
Jackson Thornburg
Hello! My name is Jackson Thornburg, and I’m a transfer student from Chemeketa Community College going to Oregon State University as a Conservation Sciences major. This summer, I’ll be working under Dr. Shon Schooler as my mentor, studying the invasive 5-spine crab and bird assemblages in Coos Bay. In my free time, I like to watch anime, enjoy nature by attempting fly fishing and hunting, and I love working with and being around people. |
Jacob Prinzo
Hey everyone! My name is Jacob, I'm a Junior at MiraCosta College in Oceanside California and I'm a biology major. I'm working in Richard Emlet's Lab researching sand dollar larvae. I love all things ocean, from the creatures found in it to surfing the waves it creates. |
Lily Marynik
Hello! My name is Lily Marynik. I’m from Superior, WI but attend Wellesley College as a rising senior pursuing a Biology and Environmental Studies double major. My mentor for the EMBOC REU is Dr. Ali Helms and together we are working on a project that identifies and quantifies invertebrate communities within Eelgrass beds in and near the South Slough Reserve. I enjoy farm work, hiking, and swimming. In addition to dabbling in crafts and scuba diving. |
Roberto Ponce
Hello there! My name is Roberto Ponce, and I’m from sunny Los Angeles, California. I’m a senior at California State University, Long Beach, majoring in Marine Biology. This summer, I’ll be working in Dr. Richard Emlet’s lab, studying the swimming appendages of barnacle larvae. Although my project focuses on barnacles and their larvae, I’m very excited to see all the marine life that lives on the Oregon coast! |
Yvonne Moreir-Andrade
Hi!! My name is Yvonne Moreira-Andrade, I am a senior at Macalester College in St. Paul, Minnesota but I’m originally from Phoenix, Arizona! I am a Biology major and an English minor and I hope to continue my education in marine biology after undergrad. Here at OIMB I’m working in Richard Emlet’s lab where I will be looking at some red sea sponges and finding differences in their spicules to hopefully further understand the feeding patterns of a little sea slug called Rostanga pulchra. Outside of school I enjoy art, playing music and writing on my guitar, and playing hockey on the Macalester Women’s club hockey! I’m looking forward to learning as much as I can from these ten weeks and exploring the beautiful Pacific NorthWest! |
